These Thin Lines

Every line on her skin is a message,

relaying every stifled tear.

The scratch behind her left eye

and the sting in her right.

She wishes that she could erase herself.

Every ugly reminder that she is ageing

and growing old and dying

and dying to be alive again.

She left her skydiving days

in the third wrinkle above her right cheek.

She left the want to climb mountains

in her laugh lines.

Every line is a message.

A message to live and live

before the lines hold more

than you once did.
